Places to Visit in Kedarnath: 7 Best Tourist Destinations

Places to Visit in Kedarnath, Uttarakhand

About Kedarnath:

Kedarnath is a place where Lord Shiva lived, a shrine still entitled as God’s sacred place. Kedarnath is entitled as one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. It is the most popular town in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. There are many beautiful places to visit in Kedarnath for couples, families, friends, solo travellers, and tourists.

The Kedarnath temple is one of the four major sites in India’s Chota Char Dham pilgrimage of Northern Himalayas.

It is a place of limitless heights that fixes the body parts of normal humans. Oxygen is also not enough at some peaks.  Predators of nature show the hardness to the pilgrim.

Kedarnath is situated at the height of 3586 meters, where the Holy Mandakini river just begins. The journey of the flowing river further joins the Alaknanda river in Devprayag.

Kedarnath is the dream place of every nature lover and spiritual person. Even older people want to live some days in Kedarnath before they die.

Historic Beauty of Kedarnath:

Being one of the Dham among four Dham pilgrims, Kedarnath has a highly rich ancient history. The glory of the shrine is more than 1200 years old, and earlier, the place was covered by heavy snow for hundreds of years.

There are two stories widely spoken by many Sadhus and Pandits (God’s first prayer) around the temple. Whereas on the internet you will get many stories and historical facts. But I have mentioned those 2 stories that are very popular and told by everyone;

First Mythological Story of Kedarnath:

As per mythology, Nar and Narayana two incarnations of Lord Vishnu performed in Badrikasharaya of Bharata khanda in front of Shiva Lingam fashioned out of the earth. Lord Shiva impressed and appeared in front of Nar and Narayana. Lord Shiva said ask whatever you want. Immediately Nar and Narayana requested Lord Shiva to take up along with him for permanent abode as Jyotirlingam at Kedarnath by which all people can be free from their miseries.

Second Mythological Story of Kedarnath:

Pandavas were supposed to have pleased Shiva by doing penance in Kedarnath. Many believe that this place begins where Pandavas (five brothers in the Mahabharata mythology) went to the Himalayas to purge themselves after killing Kaurav. Pandava had built the temple of Lord Shiva and took their way to heaven.

Why Visit Kedarnath:

Apart from having the most important pilgrimage site, Kedarnath has stiff peaks and rocky mountains.

It is believed that Lord Shiva lives in the mountain and no one can reach at the top yet. Locals from the village urge whosoever tried to reach at the top, they never come back.

Another expedition near the Kedarnath temple is open with the permission of local authorities. You can experience a beautiful trek to the Vasuki Tal and surrounding area with many herbs and Brahma kamal flowers (Sharines flowers that are only found above 4000mt in India). Surprisingly, Kedar means powerful, and you will feel in the entire region of Ukhimath, Guptakashi, Sonprayag, and Kedarnath once you cross the Devprayag town.
