Budapest was a significant city also in the 19 century, in fact it was the co-capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The city is a unification of two ancient towns “Buda” on the west and “Pest” on the east side of the river. The river Danube is the heart of the town.

The climate of Budapest is continental; it means hot summer (average of 21ºC) and cold winter (average -1ºC). The precipitation is not too much, but well distributed over the whole year.

In winter on some occasions the fog is common. Sometimes during the winter, the rain can turn into snow. In the summer, the temperature rises, and it can also reach 37º C.

Even if Budapest is an all year travel destination, the best time to visit it is in Spring, especially in May and the beginning of June.

The reasons are; suitable temperature (not too cold and not too warm), not too much tourist Flow, even if in Budapest there are always a lot and better prices than in a high season (summer).
